Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications can I expect to gain from the professional make up day courses?

Both the professional make up course and the advanced bridal make up course are accredited and insured by ABT (Associated Beauty Therapists), so your qualification on completion of these courses grants you insurability in your work as a make up artist in whichever field you would like to operate. Make up artists require formal training in order to qualify for quality insurance, particularly in a bridal setting. A bridal make up artist requires a high level of insurance due to the potential of the high costs incurred should incidents ever occur on the wedding day, i.e. a brides serious allergy to a make up product may result in a full wedding cancellation. It is advised for this reason that both courses are completed for full insurability purposes when undertaking professional training to further your make up artistry career.

Where do the courses take place?

The courses run within a salon setting in the City Centre of Perth, Scotland. The premises, home to The Hair Lounge and The Nail & Lash Lounge respectively, comprises of two large rooms, with an abundance of natural light and modern working spaces- ideally modified for a comfortable classroom supporting the theory elements of the course, as well as being equipped for the practical elements of the course in the larger space. The property is on the ground floor and offers toilet facilities on site. Chargeable Council Parking can be found just across the road at Speygate and in the surrounding areas. The property has one stair to access at the front door.

Are there refreshments/lunch provided?

Lunch and refreshments including coffee making facilities and bottled water are provided on both the Professional Make Up Artistry Course and the Advanced Bridal Make Up Artistry Course. If you are attending either of the Day Courses and would prefer to source your own refreshments and lunch, the premises is within easy walking distance of many High Street coffee shops, delis and restaurants that can be taken advantage of during the break periods of the course. If you have food allergies, please communicate these to the Scottish Make Up Academy more than 72 hours prior to the course date. Vegetarian options will be provided as standard.

Do I need experience as a make up artist to attend the day courses?

No former experience as a make up artist is required to attend the Professional Make Up Artistry Diploma course. However, it is preferred that you are already operating as a make up artist if enrolling onto the Advanced Bridal Make Up Artistry course in order to ensure your insurance coverage for bridal work is achievable upon completion of the course. It is of course highly recommended that students have a keen interest in a career in professional make up artistry to attend the Professional Make Up Artistry Course.

The bespoke make up tutorials are available to book for the general public, as a means to learn to apply make up on themselves and discover their own skin type, skin behaviours and colour matching, as well as product and skincare recommendations. The same applies to the Teen Make Up Masterclasses, which are designed to help supervised teens from the age of 12-16 understand make up, as well learn modern trends and techniques for make up application.
